Kristen Stewart für " Clouds of Sils Maria " Bericht in englisch Cannes: Norway's Fidalgo Nabs Competition Trio
The indie distributor takes rights to "Timbuktu," "Winter Sleep" and "Clouds of Sils Maria" as well as hot Directors' Fortnight title "Girlhood."
Norwegian independent distributor Fidalgo has had a busy Cannes, snapping up three competition titles for local release as well as one of the hottest features from outside the official selection.
Fidalgo picked up Norwegian rights to Abderrahmane Sissako's Timbuktu, Winter Sleep from acclaimed Turkish director Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Clouds of Sils Maria from France's Olivier Assayas, all three of which are in the running for this year's Palme d'Or.
Fidalgo also nabbed Girlhood, the French drama from director Celine Sciamma, which screened in Directors' Fortnight and was an instant critical hit.

CANNES– French auteur Olivier Assayas’ drama “Sils Maria” has drawn a flurry of buyers in the run-up to its world premiere on May 23 in Cannes.
Nathanael Karmitz’ Paris-based MK2 has closed deals with Pinnacle (Australia), California Filmes (Latin America), Remain in Light (Benelux) and Greece (Weird Wave).
Produced by Charles Gillibert’s CG Cinema, “Sils Maria” was previously picked up by Good Films (Italy), Filmcoopi (Switzerland), IFC (U.S.), NFP (Germany), Golden Scene (Hong Kong), T Cast (Korea), Leopardo (Portugal), Falcon (Middle East), Bir Film (Turkey), Continental (ex Yugoslavia) and Encore Inflight.
MK2 is now in advanced negotiations to close the U.K., Spain, Scandinavia, Taiwan, Hungary, Czech Republic, Israel, Russia and the Baltics.
One of the most anticipated competition players, the ambitious English-language drama stars Juliette Binoche as Maria Enders, a famous actress who is asked to perform in a revival of the play that made her famous twenty years ago. But while back then she played the role of Sigrid, an alluring young girl who drives the older Helena to suicide, she’s now being asked to step into the role of Helena.
Meanwhile, Naomi Kawase’s romance drama “Still the Water,” which opens tomorrow, has been picked up for Benelux (Cineart), Greece (Seven), Korea (T Cast), Turkey (Calinos), ex Yugo (MCF Megacom) and is in negotiation in Spain, Brazil, Portugal, Taiwan, ancillary rights.
MK2 also sold “Wondrous Boccaccio,” directed by the Taviani brothers, to Palace (Australia), Weird Wave (Greece) , Continental (ex Yugoslavia). Negotiations are ongoing for Czech and Slovak Republic and Switzerland.
An adaptation of Boccacio’s collection of short stories, “Decameron” toplines Jasmine Trinca, Riccardo Scamarcio, Kim Rossi Stuart and Michele Riondino.
Carlos Saura’s “Argentina,” a documentary about tango, has pre-sold to Australia (Palace). Previous pre-sales were inked with Filmcoopi (Switzerland), Germany (Telemuenchen), Russia (Russian Report) and former Yugoslavia (MCF Megacom).
Robert Guediguian’s “Don’t Tell Me The Boy Was Mad,” which will be shooting next summer, was snatched up by Filmcoopi (Switzerland), Falcon (Middle East). MK2 is in talks to close more territories.
