In wenigen Tagen stellt Robert Pattinson seinen neuen Film "Maps to the Stars" auf den Filmfestspielen in Cannes vor, wo mit Glück die "Goldene Palme" winken könnte. Regisseur David Cronenberg zeigt sich schon im Vorfeld ganz begeistert von Robs Leistung und hält ihn für einen tollen Schauspieler.

Vom Glitzer-Vampir "Edward Cullen" hat sich Robert Pattinson (27) schon seit Längerem verabschiedet und ist in düstere Rollen geschlüpft. Nicht nur seine Fans waren von der drastischen Wandlung begeistert, auch Regisseur David Cronenberg (71) findet nur lobende Worte, wenn es um RPatz geht. Cronenberg und der Ex von Kristen Stewart (24) haben nach "Cosmopolis" erneut in "Maps to the Stars" gemeinsame Sache gemacht, wo Rob wieder auf ganzer Länge überzeugt hat. Im Interview mit "Times Colonist" schwärmt der Regisseur in höchsten Tönen von RPatz.

"Als wir 'Cosmopolis' drehten, wollte er es eigentlich nicht machen, weil sein Charakter in jeder Szene war", enthüllt der "Maps to the Stars"-Regisseur David Cronenberg. Offenbar wollte Robert Pattinson nach "Twilight" nicht erneut der Mittelpunkt in einem Film sein. "Er wollte wirklich in einem Ensemble spielen, in der er nur ein Teil eines großartigen Casts ist." Doch weil Rob solch einen positiven Eindruck bei Cronenberg hinterlassen hatte, zog er den On/Off-Lover von Kristen Stewart in ein Vieraugengespräch.

"Ich sagte: 'Wir sprachen darüber und da war sie dann. Hier ist die perfekte Rolle für dich'", schildert David Cronenberg das Casting mit Robert Pattinson. Die beiden Männer verstanden sich offensichtlich so gut, dass sie in "Maps to the Stars" erneut gemeinsame Sachen gemacht haben. Nun könnte das Duo bei den " Internationalen Filmfestspielen von Cannes " eine "Goldene Palme" abräumen. Zudem steht RPatz womöglich eine peinliche Begegnung mit seiner Ex Kristen Stewart in Südfrankreich bevor.
