Die laufende erste Staffel der Superheldenserie "Arrow" bekommt mit Janina Gavankar attraktiven Zuwachs.
Mit der neuen Superhelden-Actionserie Arrow, die seit ihrer Premiere im Oktober regelmäßig Topquoten einfährt, scheint der US-Sender The CW voll ins Schwarze getroffen zu haben. Jetzt hat sich auch Janina Gavankar (The L Word - Wenn Frauen Frauen lieben), am besten bekannt als Gestaltwandlerin Luna Garza aus True Blood, eine wiederkehrende Rolle in der Comic-Adaption geschnappt.
Gavankar wird McKenna Hall spielen, eine Sittenpolizistin des Starling City Police Department, tough, sexy und wohl auch ziemlich Respekt einflößend. Hinzu kommt, dass McKenna eine komplizierte gemeinsame Vergangenheit mit Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) hat, den sie noch aus der Zeit kennt, als er noch ein stinknormaler Milliardär und Playboy und kein geheimer Gesetzesvollstrecker mit Pfeil und Bogen war.
Ihren ersten Auftritt hat sie, als eine dubiose Droge namens "Vertigo" der neueste Renner in Starling City wird. Wer gut aufgepasst hat, weiß, dass das genau die Episode ist, in der auch der an Comic-Bösewicht Count Vertigo angelehnte und von Seth Gabel (Fringe - Grenzfälle des FBI) verkörperte Oberschurke der ersten Staffel sein Debüt geben soll. Da geht es also offensichtlich ganz schön hoch her. Nur schade, dass für Arrow noch kein Deutschlandstart in Aussicht ist.

When the new hit WB series "Arrow" started, there were lots of fun Easter eggs thrown in for fans of the comics that never distracted from the show. One of these was the fact that Oliver Queen's ex-girlfriend bares the same name as DC hero Black Canary. NBC New York spoke to actress Katie Cassidy on Nov. 27 about the chance that she becomes this famous superhero.
Cassidy is the daughter of former teen idol David Cassidy, made her name with roles on "Melrose Place" and "Gossip Girl," and has been pretty impressive as Dinah Laurel Lance. While she didn't openly admit to becoming the Black Canary on the show, she makes it sound like she doesn't mind the opportunity.
"I think overall, in general, I'm a pretty physical and fit person. I try to take care of myself and workout and stuff like that," Cassidy said about playing a hero on the show. About the fishnet costume, she said "It kind of just depends on how the whole costume would come together.
"I have this action figure that I was given by a fan that's the Black Canary. I noticed that it was very revealing, with not a lot of material in the costume, so that's a little scary! But I'm sure that it'd be something that came together in a very cool and classy way."

She also enjoys playing the character of Laurel on the show because it gives her a chance to play a strong character in a genre that often sees the women as objects needing to be saved.
"I love the fact that she's a strong woman who isn't afraid to go after what she wants," Cassidy said. "Her integrity, her morals and her values are very, very high. I just think especially in today's society the working woman is very much more respected. I think it's great that she gets to take on this role and make things happen that she strongly believes in."
"Arrow" airs on Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.

Crixus is coming to Arrow!
Spartacus fan favorite Manu Bennett has been cast in a major role in The CW’s breakout superhero drama.
Bennett, best known as Sparty’s right-hand man and sometimes adversary on the Starz action series, is playing Slade Wilson on Arrow.
For fans of the Green Arrow comics, that character is a big one. In the comics, Wilson eventually becomes a major villain in the franchise — Deathstroke (whom we’ve already seen briefly in a flashback, masked, played by another actor). Like with the question of if/when Laurel Lance will become the Black Canary, sources won’t comment on whether Wilson will become Deathstroke, an insider simply said, “You’ll just have to keep watching Arrow.”
Here’s what we can tell you: As seen in flashbacks, Slade Wilson and Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) will form an uneasy alliance on the island of Lian Yu.
The buffed-out Bennett will make for a potentially physically worthy adversary for star Amell on the series, which has been on a strong casting streak lately. John Barrowman has been a welcome addition, and Jessica De Gouw showed some compelling chemistry with Amell this week.
Bennett is currently committed to appearing in multiple episodes of the show. He will also appear in the upcoming final season of Spartacus, and has a role as an orc chieftain in The Hobbit. Arrow airs Wednesdays on The CW.
