Ohne jeden Zweifel hat Stephenie Meyer die Kleinstadt Forks mit ihren "Twilight"-Büchern berühmt gemacht – und die Einwohner dieser Stadt im Bundesstaat Washington wissen, wie sie damit Profit machen können.
Neben geplanten Hochzeiten , wurde nun ein Kommitee gegründet, dass sich um die Entstehung eines "Twilight"- Museums kümmern soll. Am wichtigsten ist es natürlich erstmal, genügend Ausstellungsstücke zu sammeln. Dabei werden sie von einigen anonymen Spendern unterstützt. So hat auch der Sammler John Henson seine zahlreichen Requisiten aus den Filmen der Stadt zur Verfügung gestellt und steht in Verhandlungen, sie ganz dem Museum zu verkaufen.
Mit diesem Museum sollen vor allem Frauen über 30 in die Stadt gelockt werden. Klingt nach einem ambitionierten Plan.
"Twilight"-Tourismus in den USA: Parkplatz für einen Vampir
Werwolf oder Blutsauger? Das ist hier die Frage. In dem kleinen Ort Forks dreht sich alles um finstere Kreaturen. Seit Stephenie Meyer ihre Romanreihe "Twilight" hier spielen ließ, boomt der Vampir-Tourismus - und führt zu allerhand kuriosen Begleiterscheinungen.
Wen magst du lieber? Edward oder Jacob, den smart-coolen Vampir oder den einfühlsamen Werwolf-Muskelprotz? Diese Frage stellen sich nicht nur die zahllosen Teenager, die Stephenie Meyers "Twilight"-Bücher gelesen und die Filme gesehen haben. Auch Marcia Bingham, die Tourismus-Chefin von Forks, konfrontiert damit fast jedes pubertierende Mädchen, das in ihr Büro kommt. Auf Antworten wartet Bingham nicht, sondern schiebt sofort hinterher: "Du kannst Edward haben. Jacob gehört mir."
Das ist natürlich geflunkert. Forks, ein Holzfällerkaff im Nordwesten des US-Bundesstaats Washington, hat von "Twilight" dermaßen profitiert, dass Marcia Bingham keinen der Helden wieder abgeben mag - ebenso wenig wie die weibliche Hauptfigur Bella Swan.
Am 22. November kommt in Deutschland der fünfte und letzte Teil der "Twilight"-Saga in die Kinos, in den USA startet er ein paar Tage vorher. Das Drama um Robert Pattinson (Edward) und Kristen Stewart (Bella), die auch privat ein Paar wurden und sich im Sommer 2012 unter großer Anteilnahme der Öffentlichkeit wieder trennten, hat das Interesse weiter angefeuert. In Forks rechnen sie schon damit, dass es in den Monaten nach dieser letzten Filmpremiere erneut einen Ansturm der Fans geben wird, so wie es bisher jedes Mal der Fall war.
Kaum Sonnenlicht in Forks
Forks liegt am Westrand des Olympic-Nationalparks. Mit seinem bis zu 2432 Meter hohen Küstengebirge ist das Schutzgebiet berühmt für seinen Regenwald. Der Pazifik ist nicht weit - und die Wolken, die sich dort bilden und vom Westwind an Land getragen werden, regnen sich oft direkt über der kleinen Stadt aus. Eben deshalb lässt Stephenie Meyer ihre Buchreihe hier spielen: Vampire mögen kein Sonnenlicht.
Der Ort hat sich inzwischen komplett auf "Twilight" eingestellt. Jedes Jahr im September feiert Forks den "Stephenie Meyer Day". Zwei Tourenanbieter klappern die Drehorte ab, zu denen die Polizeistation und Bellas Arbeitsplatz im Geschäft Forks Outfitters gehören. Bei Leppell's Flowers & Gifts, einem mit allerlei "Twilight"-Nippes vollgestopften Laden, bekommt jeder Vampirzähne aus Plastik zum Einkauf dazu geschenkt. Ein Motel preist seine Bella-Suite an, am Highway 101 lässt sich "Twilight"-Feuerholz kaufen, und Sully's Drive-In behauptet stolz, den Bella-Burger erfunden zu haben.
"Stephenie Meyer hat uns einen riesigen Gefallen getan", sagt Marcia Bingham. Lange Zeit dümpelte die Zahl der Urlauber im vierstelligen Bereich pro Jahr - mal waren es knapp 5200 Besucher, mal 6400. Forks lag einfach zu weit ab vom Schuss, um Ziel vieler Besucher zu sein. Im Jahr 2009 aber, kurz nach dem Start des ersten Films der "Twilight"-Serie, schoss die Zahl auf fast 70.000 in die Höhe, 2010 legte sie noch einmal leicht zu.
"Jedes Mal, wenn ein Film herauskam, wurden wir überrannt. Die Leute sehen dann, wie schön es hier ist, und kommen immer und immer wieder", sagt Marcia Bingham. In der Tat ist die Landschaft rund um Forks das größte Pfund, mit dem der Ort wuchern kann. Ausgedehnte Wälder prägen das Bild.
Heimat der Werwölfe
In La Push an der Küste schlägt der kühle Pazifik mit aller Macht auf die Strände und spült große Mengen von Treibholz an, das sich im Sand stapelt. Oft liegt hier dichter Nebel und verbreitet eine mystische Atmosphäre. In den Büchern und Filmen leben in La Push die Werwölfe um den jungen Jacob. Im realen Leben weist ein Schild an der Straße nach Forks auf die imaginäre Grenze zwischen Vampir- und Werwolf-Territorien hin.
In Forks hat jedoch auch der Touristenboom die Probleme des Ortes nicht übertünchen können. Manche Häuser wirken ärmlich, die meisten Menschen hier verdienen schlecht.
Die Schule, die in den ersten Filmen zu sehen war, wurde abgerissen und 2011 durch einen Neubau ersetzt. Das lokale Krankenhaus hält zwar einen Parkplatz frei für Dr. Carlisle Cullen, den Vampirvater von Edward - doch das Schild ist in der Ecke versteckt, so dass nicht jeder es gleich findet. Und das Haus, in dem Bella mit ihrem Filmvater lebt, gibt es zwar tatsächlich. Besichtigen aber lässt es sich zur Enttäuschung vieler Fans nicht.
Jahrzehntelang hat Forks von der Holzwirtschaft gelebt, der Tourismus kam erst später dazu. Dass das baldige Ende der Filmreihe nun dazu führen könnte, dass wieder deutlich weniger Urlauber die doch recht weite Autofahrt von Seattle im Osten oder von Portland im Süden auf sich nehmen, fürchtet Marcia Bingham nicht: "Die Leser der Bücher haben eine große Leidenschaft für 'Twilight' entwickelt. Sie werden weiter nach Forks kommen." Wenn es also nach ihr geht, wird sie noch viele Jahre lang jungen Mädchen die alles entscheidende Frage stellen: "Wen magst du mehr? Edward oder Jacob?"

"Twilight" fans know well enough that while the events of "New Moon" took place in Volterra, Italy, filming for the big reunion and first meeting with the Volturi in Chris Weitz's "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" went down in the neighboring town of Montepulciano, Italy.
Just like Forks, Washington, though, the story setting of Volterra is a real place in the big boot. So, the same documentary filmmakers responsible for the exploratory "Twilight In Forks" and "Destination Forks" decided to pay a visit to the real-life town upon which Stephenie Meyer's story was based and make a movie about it.
As detailed by a new press release issued today, producers York Baur and Jason Brown have now released "Twilight In Volterra," a film meant to educate "Twilight" fans on the real-life town of Volterra and its connections to the "Saga."
From the producers of Twilight in Forks comes Twilight in Volterra – the definitive movie about Volterra, Italy, the town made famous by the Twilight books and movies.
