‘True Detective’ Season 2 Scripts ‘More Exciting’ Than Season 1
Speculation continues to run rampant regarding the cast and plot of “True Detective” season 2, but HBO Chairman/CEO Richard Plepler and president Michael Lombardo were reticent about revealing much about the anticipated follow-up at the Television Critics Assn. summer press tour Thursday.
The much-buzzed-about, mysterious second season of HBO’s True Detective is starting out more promising than the first, HBO executives say. “The two scripts we have … I hate to jinx it … they are more exciting than the first season,” said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills on Thursday. [Creator Nic Pizzolatto is] an incredibly talented writer. And he’s blown us away with the first two episodes.”
Nic Pizzolatto: ‘True Detective’ Season 2 Set in California with Four Leads
The mind behind True Detective says the show’s second season hasn’t been cast and may not be about the secret occult history of the transportation system. And if you're bummed about the finale, you probably didn’t get the show.

Colin Farrell Puts On Badge For 'True Detective' Season 2, Taylor Kitsch In Contention For Role
“The two scripts we have … I hate to jinx it … they are more exciting than the first season,” HBO programming president Michael Lombardo bold said at the Television Critics Association press tour in Beverly Hills yesterday about the second season of "True Detective." (via EW) But the question on everybody's mind is: who is going to take over from the fantastic performances by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson? Well, we might have our answer.
TRUE DETECTIVE: Colin Farrell in Talks for Season 2 of the Hit HBO Series; Taylor Kitsch Also in the Mix
True Detective season 2 may have finally begun casting its major roles as Colin Farrell is in talks to join the hit HBO series. Additionally, Taylor Kitsch might be in the mix as well Earlier today, we posted an interview with HBO’s President of Programming Michael Lombardo and Chairman and CEO Richard Plepler, and Lombardo said he assumed “at least some announcements will be happening in the next week.” Since Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson got two juicy roles and earned nominations for Best Actor in a Drama Series, the show is presumably a hot ticket in Hollywood for actors and actresses looking for rich material in an acclaimed series that won’t permanently take them away from acting in movies. Yesterday, creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto revealed that there will be four central roles, and now Farrell presumably has one of them, and Kitsch is being eyed for a part as well.
Colin Farrell in Talks for ‘True Detective’ Season 2
Colin Farrell is in talks to star in the second season of HBO’s “True Detective,” sources confirm.
He’s the first actor to board season 2 of the highly acclaimed drama after months of rumors and Internet speculation.
““I think the people we will cast will be well-known names,” HBO president Michael Lombardo hinted at Thursday’s TCA presentation. “But that wasn’t our ambition (in season 1).”
It’s unknown whether Farrell will be joined by a female co-star, as rumored, but creator Nic Pizzolatto has confirmed that the new season will be set in California and feature at least three lead roles.
“It takes place in California — not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser known venues of California — and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season 1.”
