Guillermo Del Toro's Television Series, The Strain, Gets a Full Episode Order at FX

"The Strain" is picking up steam at the FX network, where it was granted a full season order of thirteen episodes and outfitted with a full writing staff to bring the series to fruition.

Deadline reports that FX's plan is to run "The Strain" from anywhere between 39-65 episodes. FX is obviously leaving some flexibility here based on how well the show performs, and also how well the premise adapts to television. That the network is so committed isn't surprising considering they landed the project in a bidding war. They clearly see the potential in such a story, which is good news for horror fans clamoring for more high quality genre entertainment.

Guillermo del Toro will direct the pilot from a script he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan, who also co-authored novels with him. Carlton Cuse ("Lost," "Bates Motel"), who helped develop the adaptation, executive produces alongside del Toro and will serve as showrunner, overseeing the potential series with del Toro. Hogan and del Toro’s longtime manager/producing partner Gary Ungar also serve as exec producers of the project, produced by FX Prods. Kevin Durand, Richard Sammel, Lauren Lee Smith, Jack Kesy, Jonathan Hyde, John Hurt, Miguel Gomez, Corey Stoll, Robert Maillet, and Mia Maestro all star.

"The Strain" is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism. As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers wage war for the fate of humanity itself.

FX Orders 13-Episode First Season of Guillermo del Toro’s THE STRAIN to Premiere July 2014

While Guillermo del Toro only recently wrapped production on the pilot for his potential FX series The Strain, the network apparently really liked what they saw. FX announced today that it has ordered a full 13-episode first season of The Strain, which will debut on the network in July 2014. The ambitious series is based on the trilogy of novels by del Toro and Chuck Hogan and centers on a team of scientists who wage war against an ancient strain of virus that confers vampirism, along with those it infects. The stellar cast includes Corey Stoll, John Hurt, Mia Maestro, Sean Astin, and Kevin Durand, and Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse is onboard to act as showrunner while del Toro will remain involved as an executive producer.

Hit the jump for more info on this exciting new horror series.

Del Toro previously revealed to us that they were writing the entire first season of The Strain before production began on the pilot, and he has not been shy about the close-ended nature of the series. Indeed, FX CEO John Landgraf said The Strain will likely end up with somewhere between 39 and 65 episodes, which means the show will probably run for five seasons at a maximum. Filming on the rest of the first season will begin later this month in Toronto while del Toro moves into prepping to shoot his next feature film, Crimson Peak.

Mia Maestro für " The Strain "

«The Strain» flattert nach Deutschland
